The City of Tybee Island will celebrate “Georgia Cities Week” April 24-30. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Shaping the Future.
In keeping with the theme, Tybee will celebrate by developing the next generation of civic leaders. Local students, including those at Tybee Island Maritime Academy, will learn how city government works by participating in an online scavenger hunt, essay contest and coloring contest. The students will have an opportunity to win prizes to local businesses and appear at city council on May 12.
“We are very proud of the young people who live and learn on Tybee Island,” said Mayor Shirley Sessions. “By teaching them about city government at such a young age, we hope to inspire our next generation of mayors, council members and city staff.”
Any students who wish to participate can contact Jan LeViner, Clerk of Council at (912) 472-5080 or jleviner@cityoftybee.org.
Cities across Georgia will be celebrating Georgia Cities Week, sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), to showcase and celebrate cities and the many services they provide. Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to its 538 member cities.
