Speed Hump Requests

The City of Tybee Island recently received two requests for speed humps. In accordance with the City’s approved Speed Hump Policy, notification letters were sent to adjacent property owners for each proposed location, allowing residents to vote on whether a speed hump should be installed.

Below are the results of the voting and next steps for each location.


Speed Hump Approved 


Location:
6th Avenue – Between 13th Street and 14th Street

  • Notification letters sent: 23
  • Vote outcome: Approved (5–0)
  • Installation: Scheduled for March 2026
  • Status: Temporary installation
  • Duration: One year, after which the speed hump will be evaluated and voted on again

Speed Hump Not Approved


Location:
Lovell Avenue – Between 12th Street and 13th Street

  • Notification letters sent: 13
  • Vote outcome: Not approved (6–2)
  • Installation: No speed hump will be installed at this location

The City appreciates residents’ participation in this process and encourages continued engagement in neighborhood traffic‑calming initiatives.
