[ARCHIVED] City Hall to Reopen Wednesday

March 23, 2020

Hello Tybee Neighbors and Friends,

I’m happy to report that after being closed for more than a week due to COVID-19 safety measures, we will reopen City Hall this Wednesday.

To facilitate social distancing recommendations from the CDC, only a fraction of our staff will be working in the building at any given time. The remainder of our employees will continue to work remotely. We ask that anyone exhibiting symptoms of illness refrain from visiting our offices. We will assist you as best we can over the phone. Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time. Please remember that this situation is fluid, and our operational status could change again on short notice.

Please refer to the information below to help you transact your business at city hall.

CITY OF TYBEE OPERATIONS PLAN FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 23, 2020

APPOINTMENTS

Although we will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the doors to City Hall will remain locked and staff will interact with customers by appointment only. Citizens can make appointments to acquire permits, licenses and parking permits by calling (912) 786-4573. Staff will let you into the building at the time of your appointment as long as we don’t exceed the 10-person limit.

PAYMENTS

Payments will be done via check or over the phone. We will not be able to take credit card payments at the cashier’s window. Payment by credit cards at the window is the single point where hundreds of interactions take place each week. We feel that eliminating this option will significantly improve everyone’s safety. We encourage utility customers to use an automatic draft payment system. Otherwise please make an appointment to pay by check or over the phone with a credit card.

PHONE CALLS

Phone calls will be answered by appropriate personnel or go to an automated system where you can leave a message. Voice messages go directly to the appropriate staff member’s email so that they may return your call.

CLEANLINESS

Hand gel is placed throughout City Hall and we ask that everyone sanitize their hands upon entering the building. To maintain surface cleanliness, all staff will be sanitizing workspaces with disinfectant when they arrive and depart from work, as well as after interactions with the public.

OTHER CITY SERVICES

  • Water and Sewer Department and Department of Public Works will resume normal operations
  • Police Department and Fire Department will continue normal operations
  • River’s End Campground will continue to honor existing reservations but will not be accepting new reservations. They will follow the same safety precautions as City Hall

Best Regards,

Mayor Shirley Sessions
