May 12-18 is National Police Week, honoring the fallen and those currently serving in the law enforcement community. Mayor Jason Buelterman made the following statement for our local law officers: "This week, as our nation honors our Police Officers,we want to thank the Tybee Island Police Department for their selfless dedication to our community. Tybee has lost two officers in the line of duty: Lt. Clyde ‘Trey’ Alley III and Chief David McCutchen. This week, we remember their service to Tybee and honor all of those who have served and continue to serve on our Tybee Police Department.
"Over the past few days, the greater Savannah community has been mourning the death of of Sgt. Kelvin Ansari. As his family, friends and coworkers prepare to lay him to rest, the City of Tybee Island and its citizens wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to Sgt. Ansari’s family and all those who worked with him over the years. He was a veteran and policeofficer who gave the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of all us who live in the Savannah area.
"Tybee’s flags will fly at half mast for the remainder of the week in honor of fallen officers locally and around the country."
