From Mayor Buelterman:
9/12 11pm Tybee Update on Florence:
Below is the 11pm NHC update. We will send out a more detailed informational update tomorrow morning around 10 am.
From the 5PM update: The City of Tybee continues to coordinate with Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) to make informed decisions about any evacuations. As of 6 pm tonight (Wednesday, September 12), neither Chatham County nor Tybee are under an evacuation order. Again, there is no evacuation order for Tybee. If forecasts about the path and/or intensity change significantly, there could be an evacuation order at some point on Thursday or Friday.
We continue to urge our citizens to pay very close attention to Florence as this is a very, very unpredictable storm.
The National Weather Service has advised us that it would take a significant change in the forecast models for Tybee to experience any significant storm surge or hurricane force winds. However, this is still a possibility and if that worst case scenario comes to fruition we still have time to evacuate our citizens and visitors in an orderly manner.
For parents and staff of the Savannah-Chatham School System, the Superintendent, Dr. Levett, has announced that all public schools in the County will be closed on Friday.
