Aretha Franklin, The Queen of Soul, had a career that expanded over 60 years. Her gospel upbringing led her to a successful career that would forever change soul music. Her music has spanned over generations of music lovers! “Respect”, “Chain of Fools”, and “Natural Woman” are only a few of her tunes that we all love and know today.
Smokey Robinson, The Poet Laureate of Soul, has a career that has also expanded over 60 years. Along with his group, The Miracles, brought Motown their first successful hit, “Shop Around”. Smokey has been instrumental with putting Motown Records on the map and writing a collection of songs that are simply unforgettable. These songs include: “Cruising”, “I Second That Emotion”, “You Really Got A Hold On Me”, and many more!
Aretha and Smokey had a lifelong friendship, meeting as children and living on the same street in Detroit's North End neighborhood. Despite being on different labels, their bond was never broken.
