    The Tybee Polar Plunge returns to Tybee Island on Jan. 1, 2020! Join thousands of brave souls and take the plunge into the brisk Atlantic Ocean at 12 noon on New Year’s Day. It’s a great way for the entire family to start off the New Year! Registration comes with a souvenir long-sleeve 2020 Tybee Polar Plunge T-shirt! Register in advance, avoid the long lines and be guaranteed the T-shirt size you want! So don’t hesitate! Make the leap! It's fun! It's exhilarating! The fun kicks off with the legendary Gang of Goofs costume contest and parade before a panel of esteemed judges on the Tybee island Pier and Pavilion at 11 am! So gather up your gang of goofy friends and family, dream up your wackiest costumes and compete for great cash prizes! The incomparable Monty Parks will be our DJ again this year!

  1. Weather Warning Siren Test

    January 1, 2020, 11:00 AM - 11:30 AM @ Island-wide

    CEMA tests the county's weather warning siren systems each month on Wednesday at noon. During a real emergency event, the sirens will go off for three minutes, immediately followed by a voice announcement describing the type of emergency. Tybee's siren test has been put on an earlier schedule than the county test. During testing, the siren sounds for 30 seconds, and then, there will be a verbal announcement that "This is a test." In the event of inclement weather, during which the siren might be misinterpreted as a real weather emergency, testing will be cancelled.
