Tybee Post Theater is presenting a three-night Burt Reynolds Tribute featuring three of his most memorable films. "Deliverance," the North Georgia thriller starring also starring Jon Voight, Ned Beatty and Ronny Cox, on Sept. 27; "Smokey and the Bandit," his action comedy filmed in Savannah also starring Sally Field, Jackie Gleason, and Georgia musician Jerry Reed, and still one of Reynolds's best-known and loved films, on Sept. 28; and his most critically acclaimed film, "Boogie Nights," the film about the California porn industry also starring Mark Wahlberg and Julianne Moore.
Reynolds made six films in Georgia, beginning with “Deliverance” in 1972. While in Rome, GA last year, he said this about our state and why he liked to make movies here: “It’s the people. In the final analysis, it doesn’t matter how pretty the town is, it’s the people, and the people of Georgia have been wonderful to me. Always have.”
