  1. Plein Air: Painting the Coast with Mary Hubley

    May 2, 2018, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM @ Tybee Arts Association - Classroom/Studio

A plein air (painting outdoors) workshop focused on local Tybee coastal scenes. Includes demos, one-on-one instruction, and gentle class critique. Back-up space in case of inclement weather is held at Tybee Arts Association Gallery. Participants will be encouraged to study light, shadow, and atmosphere. We focus on ways to create stronger composition, how to use color successfully, loosen up, and work quickly without getting stuck. Starting each day with a demo, each student will move on to do value sketches and then paint. They will receive technical instruction, class discussion, and gentle critique. Instructor walks around to each artist continually throughout the day as they paint, offering individual one-on-one time with each artist. In the end, participants will go home with finished plein air paintings and solid recommendations as to where to go next with their individual painting practice.

  1. Weather Warning Siren Test

    May 2, 2018, 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM @ Island-wide

CEMA tests the county's weather warning siren systems each month on Wednesday at noon. During a real emergency event, the sirens will go off for three minutes, immediately followed by a voice announcement describing the type of emergency. During testing, the siren sounds for 30 seconds, followed by 30 minutes of additional, silent testing, and only after the silent testing completes, there will be a verbal announcement that "This is a test." In the event of inclement weather, during which the siren might be misinterpreted as a real weather emergency, testing will be cancelled. You may also subscribe to Tybee's warning system to learn about weather emergencies, road closures, utility outages, calendar events, and more, through your choice of email, telephone, and/or text message by signing up at
