“Exploring the Use of Cowrie Shells as Currency”: a Savannah African Art Museum Workshop

The Savannah African Art Museum will launch their new workshop, “Exploring the Use of Cowrie Shells as Currency” Saturday, April 9 from 11-12:30 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the Upbeat Village Terracotta Gallery (stair access only). Participants will learn the history of the use of cowrie shells as currency in Africa and then will make a cowrie shell ink stamp with a potato and decorate their own draw-string currency pouches. Registration is free via the SAAM website and required in advance to participate.
