Attention Tybee Island Residents and Visitors: Protect Your Pipes During the Winter Storm!

Our area is currently under a Winter Storm Warning, so it's crucial to take steps to prevent your pipes from freezing and bursting. Here are some quick tips to stay safe and avoid costly repairs:

๐Ÿ”’ Close Garage Doors โ€“ Keep them closed if water lines run through the garage.

๐Ÿšช Open Cabinet Doors โ€“ Allow warm air to circulate around plumbing, especially in kitchens and bathrooms. (Make sure harmful items are out of reach for kids and pets!)

๐Ÿ’ง Let Faucets Drip โ€“ Allow cold water to trickle from faucets to prevent freezing.

๐ŸŒก๏ธ Set Your Thermostat โ€“ Keep it at a consistent temperature, day and night, to reduce the risk of frozen pipes.

๐Ÿงฃ Insulate Exposed Pipes โ€“ Wrap pipes in unheated areas like garages, attics, and crawl spaces with insulation or heat tape.

๐Ÿงฝ Disconnect Outdoor Hoses โ€“ Drain and store hoses. Close inside valves supplying outdoor spigots, and leave the outdoor spigot open to let water drain.

๐Ÿ’ก If your pipes freeze, open the faucet slightly and apply gentle heat (like a heating pad or hairdryer). Never use open flames!

Stay warm and safe! ๐Ÿกโ„๏ธ
