Attention Tybee Island Residents and Visitors: Protect Your Pipes During the Winter Storm!

Our area is currently under a Winter Storm Warning, so it's crucial to take steps to prevent your pipes from freezing and bursting. Here are some quick tips to stay safe and avoid costly repairs:

🔒 Close Garage Doors – Keep them closed if water lines run through the garage.

🚪 Open Cabinet Doors – Allow warm air to circulate around plumbing, especially in kitchens and bathrooms. (Make sure harmful items are out of reach for kids and pets!)

💧 Let Faucets Drip – Allow cold water to trickle from faucets to prevent freezing.

🌡️ Set Your Thermostat – Keep it at a consistent temperature, day and night, to reduce the risk of frozen pipes.

🧣 Insulate Exposed Pipes – Wrap pipes in unheated areas like garages, attics, and crawl spaces with insulation or heat tape.

🧽 Disconnect Outdoor Hoses – Drain and store hoses. Close inside valves supplying outdoor spigots, and leave the outdoor spigot open to let water drain.

💡 If your pipes freeze, open the faucet slightly and apply gentle heat (like a heating pad or hairdryer). Never use open flames!
