Mission

Our mission is to serve, maintain, beautify, and enhance the City of Tybee Island’s infrastructure for all citizens
in an effective, efficient, and proactive approach. 
  

Public Meeting & Recreational Facilities

The Public Works Department cares for the various buildings and parks on Tybee Island that are available for the public to enjoy.

Recycling Center

Recycling center on site accepts:

  • Glass*
  • Cans
  • Boxes
  • Metal
  • Phone Books
  • Oyster shells 

Drive-Through Recycling

The City offers drive through recycling at the DPW main yard, located at 76 Polk Street. 

When recycling, Tybee Island residents will enter and exit through the scale gate at the DPW main yard. 
Once inside, residents should inform the DPW employees that they are dropping off recyclables. 
Please follow instructions on where to properly dispose of these materials.
 
DPW Main Yard Hours:
Monday through Friday from 7:30AM to 3:30PM.
Saturday & Sunday from 12:00PM to 2:00PM
The drive through recycling will be closed on major holidays.
 
The following items are accepted at NO charge:
Cardboard
Mixed paper
#1 and #2 plastics
Aluminum cans
Tin and Metal (White goods), i.e. washers dryers, old metal furniture, etc.
 
The following items will be accepted for a charge of $0.05/pound
Construction debris
Landscaping brush
Furniture and other household items

The following items are NOT accepted:
Electronics
Old paint and varnish
Pesticides

On Monday June 6 paving begins on 17th Street from Strand Avenue to Butler Avenue.
This should take a couple of days.

Speed Hump Update (June 2023)

DPW recently sent out surveys for the installation of temporary speed humps at various locations throughout the city. 

 The voting results are posted below.

Please note that the speed humps will be scheduled for installation in the order they were requested once they are delivered. 

The location of the installation will be determined at a future date.

16 Letters mailed with 10 responses (62.5 % response rate)

80% of residents in favor of installation

Marine Science Center Walkway Project
To improve accessibility for all, the city will construct a walkway from the Marine Science Center to the North Beach restrooms.
