Parking Services General Information
As much as we wish to welcome our visitors in the most hospitable way, we could not afford to keep lifeguards on the beach, keep the beach clean, provide emergency services, take care of stray and wild animals, provide our July 4th and New Year's Fireworks Displays, warn everyone of impending inclement weather from the wind and tides, and generally keep Tybee a safe and pleasant place to visit if we gave away free parking. Therefore,

THERE IS NO FREE PARKING ON TYBEE!

Please review the information below which describes use of our Pay-and-Display parking system, which is enforced 8am - 8pm, 365 days a year. Pay before you leave your car and leave your receipt on your car's dash. To help you out, we provide details in our...

Guide to Painless Parking

The City of Tybee Island has made the transition to Pay-and-Display equipment.  The barrier gate systems have been removed as well as many of the traditional parking meters.  The rates, island-wide, are 25 cents for 10 minutes, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., year-round, weekends and holidays included.

Annual decals are available at Tybee Island City Hall for $100.00 and are valid for one year from month of purchase. The decals should be placed on the outside of the driver's side of the windshield to allow checking the sticker from front. Effective January 1st, 2010, motorcycle stickers are also available for the same fee. These stickers can be placed on the front forks of the bike so as to be visible to an enforcement officer standing in front of the vehicle. (See figure.) Stickers on the dash or not visible from the front cannot be honored.

Multi-day passes can be purchased at the Pay-and-Display machines by adding hours till 8:00 p.m. of the current day.  Additional days can be purchased by adding $18.00 at a time, to a maximum of three days.

To Pay With Cash:

Machines will accept nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollar coins.

  1. Insert coins in slot for time desired.
  2. Press print button.
  3. Pull receipt from slot and display on dashboard.

To Pay With Debit/Credit Card:

Minimum charge amount is $3.00.

  1. Press blue button (+), press again to add more time (adds $1.50 at a time.)
  2. When desired time is reached, press green button (P) to confirm transaction.
  3. Insert and remove credit card as shown on machine.
  4. Pull receipt from hinged slot area and display on dashboard.
Any machine can be used to purchase your time. You may park anywhere on the island with your receipt until your time expires. There are still some metered spaces around the Island; meter rates are $1.00 per hour. Your Pay-and-Display receipt is also honored at the meters.
