  7. Girls' Night Out: "Ghost"

    October 25, 2018, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM @ YMCA

Could there be a better movie to show the week before Halloween than “Ghost,” arguably one of the finest and weepiest love stories to ever hit the big screen. It cemented the late Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore’s star power and won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Whoopi Goldberg. We all remember the plotline: Sam Wheat (Swayze) is a banker, Molly Jensen (Moore) is an artist, and the two are madly in love. However, when Sam is murdered by friend and corrupt business partner Carl Bruner (Tony Goldwyn) over a shady business deal, he is left to roam the earth as a powerless spirit. When he learns of Carl's betrayal, Sam seeks the help of psychic Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg) to set things right and protect Molly from Carl and his goons.

  10. The Dirty Doors

    October 27, 2018, 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM @ Tybee Post Theater

The Dirty Doors - the ultimate celebration of the music of The Doors – will set the night on fire with the energy, excitement, and passion of the timeless music of Jim Morrison and The Doors like no other tribute band. The Doors were unique and among the most controversial and influential rock acts of the 1960s, mostly because of Morrison's lyrics and charismatic but, er, unpredictable stage persona. This Atlanta-based classic rock band, The Dirty Doors, fronted by Reed Barrickman, faithfully recreate a Doors concert in sound and stage presence with as many as 30 classic Doors hits like “Light My Fire,” “Riders On The Storm,” “Hello, I Love You,” and “L.A. Woman.”

  11. "The Slayer" -- a Tybee Horror Story!

    October 28, 2018, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM @ Tybee Post Theater

OK, Tybee, this one’s for you! We’re screening the independent horror flick filmed entirely on Tybee in 1982, “Slayer!” It was also released under the name “Nightmare Island,” in some locations. We love it because the Tybee Post Theater, in its most decrepit state ever, stars as the primary location in the film. It’s the story of four young people vacationing on a barren island. One of them, a female artist, has dreams that depict ghastly murders. Sure enough, the fun begins when her boyfriend is found dead. We screened this screamer last year when the filmmakers came to town to film B-matter for a documentary. And now we've decided "The Slayer" needs to be our annual Halloween tradition. If you were here in the early 80s, you don’t want to miss it. And if you weren’t, but want to truly appreciate the restoration of your Tybee Post Theater, you don’t want to miss it either.

TIPD-VIP TYBEE ISLAND ADULT GROUP - HELPING OUR NEIGHBORS TIPD Chief Robert Bryson has created a new group propelled by adult residents giving back to each other - helping to accomplish whatever needs to be done for the comfort and companionship of fellow residents. The YMCA has come on board to give their support, and our restaurants have come forward, too, giving their goods and support to this project. Visit with your neighbors, and learn more about what we can do for our friends on the island. Our ultimate goal is for a kinder, happier group of helpful neighbors on Tybee. If you are unable to attend, due to health or other needs, you are one of our more cherished VIP’s. We are seeking to offer our help. If you are not needing help, we need you to help others, and if you need help getting the garbage out from your second story house, but have a need to give back, well… we need you too! Attend these monthly meetings with island restaurants contributing free lunches!
