The Tybee Island Marine Science Center will occupy a .7 acre site within the northern portion of the current City of Tybee Island Parking lot at North Beach. It will include an approximately 6,000 square foot wood framed building, elevated on a raised concrete structure and overlooking the undeveloped dune habitat to the north. The building will include interpretive exhibits, a retail shop, numerous outdoor overlooks, and an outdoor amphitheater. The space below the building will be partially enclosed, but will remain unconditioned, and will be utilized for storage, educational tour group staging, and other purposes deemed appropriate be the Science Center.
Project Delivery Method
The delivery method for this Project will be construction manager at-risk (CM/GC), and, as a minimum, will employ the services of a Design Professional, in addition to the services of a CM/GC.
The preliminary construction cost of the building is estimated at $2,000,000.00. The final construction cost may be revised by the Owner due to final programmatic requirements, funding availability or other circumstances.
The Owner is not considering LEED Certification of this facility; however, the project will be designed using sustainable design strategies to the greatest extent possible.
Preconstruction Services are anticipated to be completed by September of 2018 with construction anticipated for completion in June 2019. The start of construction is not contingent on the availability of funding. (All of the dates above are estimates which are subject to change.)
