City Manager's Mission Statement

The City Manager reports to the City Council and the Mayor, implements the directives and actions of the City Council and is responsible for the daily operations of the City. The City Manager is to provide guidance and information to the City Council, provide resources to the city staff, administers the business affairs of the City and acts as a conduit for information between individuals, departments and officials.


Tybee Island City Manager - Diane Schleicher

Diane Schleicher, City Manager of Tybee Island, Georgia

Biographical Information: Age 54, married to John Schleicher for over 31 years. Diane and John have two grown children: their daughter, Kristine, is married and lives in Rochester, Minnesota. Their son, John Eric is married and lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Diane and her husband also have two grandchildren, 3.5 years and 17 months old.

Diane is a native of Athens, Georgia. She attended grade school and high school in Athens and went on to graduate from the University of Georgia.

Diane’s mother still lives in Athens and serves as the Mayor there. She has been in Athens local government for over 32 years. One of Diane’s sisters is also a state representative from Fulton County in the Georgia State Legislature.

Education: Bachelor of Arts from the University of Georgia, majoring in German; a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Recent Work History:  City of Tybee Island Manager since May of 2006.

Administrator for the Village of Waterford, Wisconsin from 1994 to 2006.

Interests: Sports of all kinds. Diane coached selected youth soccer teams for over 12 years. She currently coaches a U-12 recreational co-ed team on Tybee Island, Georgia. Diane was an assistant coach for youth baseball, softball and basketball when her children were in grade school and middle school. Diane loves bicycling and in past years was a competitive bicycle racer. Diane is a board member of the Savannah Bicycle Campaign. She is also a League Certified Instructor (LCI) with the League of American Bicyclists.
